Work in Progress 7-28

This is the embroidery pattern I've been working on forever. Okay - maybe not forever - but it certainly feels that way. I'm calling it The Firefly Tree and it holds a really special memory for me. One summer night, shortly before my daughter was born, I went outside to check the mail. As I turned around to waddle back inside I caught sight of the tree above me - simply filled with fireflies. There were so many of them that the entire tree glowed. I've never seen anything like it before or since. I'd almost think it was a dream, but my husband confirms that it was real. I called him outside and we stood there in the heat and humidity and watched the tree glow - me leaning on him to take the pressure off my back, and both of us talking in whispers the entire time, as if talking in regular voices would break the spell.

Jo is almost nine now, and still believes wholeheartedly in fairies. I've told her the story and she says there must have been fairies there for sure. I'm stitching this up for her, using glow-in-the-dark thread to make the whole tree glow. I'm almost done - but last night I ran out of glow-in-the-dark thread! Aargh! Placing another order today - and this pattern will be a tiny bit delayed. It turns out glow-in-the-dark thread requires some. . . special handling. I've recorded a video with some tips for using it. It still needs editing and uploading, but I'll have it up on the site soon.

As soon as I found out glow-in-the-dark thread existed, I knew immediately that this is what I wanted to stitch with it. What would you use it for?

Best,
Wendi

UPDATE: The embroidery is finished and hanging in Jo's room - and the pattern is in my shop. :-)

This is darling and the sweetest little story to go with it! I love love love it. I have only recently found your blog, but have begun embroidering solely inspired by you and your blog (as well as your how to videos!) Anyway. I just think you seem fun. So thanks.

  4. Hi Wendi! I absolutely love this story about the fireflies in the tree. Thanks for sharing. I've recently found your blog and love it. I've sewed and embroidered for years but have still learned so much from your blog and your great videos. Thanks for all that you do!
