The Safari Quilt is finished! Woo hoo! And I totally love it. I know this sounds silly - but I gave it a big hug after I finished the binding. :-)
With the finished quilt comes a change to the pattern. Now when you purchase the Safari Quilt pattern you don't get a block a month as I make them - you get the whole thing right up front. That way you can work at your own pace. Some of you may want to set a goal of making a block a month - some of you will zoom through the project at lightning speed. You do whatever works best for you.
And remember - this isn't just a bunch of patterns. It's a structured workshop teaching you how to applique. Each pattern has complete step-by-step instructions with loads of photos and links to videos teaching you everything you need to know to complete the block. And I lay out the order of block construction so that you're building on previously-learned skills. The first block is the chimp - all easy convex curves to introduce you to the basic technique. The next block is the hippo - more convex curves, but also introducing notches. You get the idea. You'll progress through twelve blocks of increasing difficulty until you're ready to tackle any applique pattern out there.
So - when you buy you get an immediate email with a link to download the master PDF. That PDF includes. . .
- links to download all 12 block patterns and instructions
- an introduction to applique and links to videos teaching 3 different techniques - the technique I use in the patterns is an easy and fast machine applique technique
- instructions for dealing with small pieces
- a complete materials list
- instructions for joining your finished blocks into the quilt top
- instructions for a pieced backing
- instructions (and video links) for layering, basting, machine quilting, and binding your quilt.
The finished quilt is 62" wide x 78" tall. That's a twin-size quilt with no pillow tuck and with a shortish drop around the sides. I prefer a borderless quilt, but in case you have a tall (or pillow-top) mattress or just like a longer drop, I give you instructions for adding a border to increase the size as needed.

Happy Monday everyone!
