Do you like this softie with one giant eyeball?
How about this quilt block with many eyes?
Well, they're both in the pattern collection I'm working on right now. The patterns won't be ready until the end of February, but I'm building a little lesson library now so you'll have all the skills you need to start sewing as soon as you get the patterns. Last week's video showed you how to cut faux fur without leaving your sewing space looking like a Muppet abattoir, and how to sew the pieces together so all the lovely fur ends up on the outside of your softie (without tedious seam-picking).
This week I'm showing you how to applique directly onto the fur. This is a good way to attach eyes, mouths, bellies - any smooth surface you want on top of all that fur. It's surprisingly easy! (I know I say that all the time - but I really think it's true! When I was getting started there were so many techniques I thought would be sooooooo tricky and hard - and when I actually tried them I was all, "That's it? But that's not a big deal at all!" But I digress. . . )
Applique onto fur. Give it a try! Next week I'll show you how to applique the fur onto regular fabric - like in that quilt block. It's also a wonderful way to add furry moustaches and bushy eyebrows to otherwise hairless softies. :-)
Happy sewing!
Best,
Wendi
That's great and really clear. Thanks very much!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad it was helpful! I can't wait to see all the furry monsters you guys make. :-)
