Beast Bag - Sewing Pattern

$5.00

I think this may be my favorite thing I've ever designed. It turned out exactly the way I pictured it in my head - and I've been picturing it in my head for months now.

I wanted to make a library bag. One that's just the right size for carrying books - and not so wide that skinny paperbacks would tend to get curled up at the bottom. One with straps that are just the right length - long enough to be comfortably slung over the shoulder, but short enough to carry in my hand as a tote bag without touching the ground. One with an extra little pocket inside where my daughter can stash her library card. One that's fun to look at and practical to use. By golly, the Beast Bag is all those things! And it only takes a few hours to make.

What you get:
  • Pattern with detailed step-by-step instructions and photos
Materials you'll need:
  • 5/8 yd. of mid to heavyweight fabric
  • scraps of white fabric for the eyes
  • 4 x 3/8 inch buttons for the eyes
  • scraps of white craft foam for the big teeth
  • 4 1/2 inches white rickrack for the small teeth
  • small amount of paper-backed fusible adhesive
  • basic sewing tools
Skills you'll need: (links take you to video tutorials)
Time you'll need:
  • a few hours
$5.00

I can't wait to see the beasties you all sew! Be sure to show them off in the Flickr group!

Have fun and happy stitching!

PS - That outside pocket that his mouth makes? It's just the right size to hold a couple of chapter books.

And the little inner pocket designed to hold a library card? It's a monster too!
I had so much fun making this! I hope you do too!
