First there was The Cheerful Chimp. Then we met The Happy Hippo and The Zippy Zebra! Today there's a new guy in the quilting playground - meet The Lucky Lion. He's the newest block in the Safari Quilt Block of the Month series.
My daughter is a Leo and she's has a collection of lions since before she was born. Good thing she likes them! She's pretty picky about them, though, so I was thrilled when she loved this guy. Whew!
No new skills on this one - but lots of opportunities to practice your inside points. Look at them all around the mane! This one also has a few more pieces, but they're all pretty large and easy to work with.
As with all the other safari quilt blocks - these are big (16 inches square). I like to include full-sized pattern pieces so you don't have to mess with enlarging anything. But one of the great things about applique patterns is that you can also use them for lots of other things - smaller applique, embroidery, cut paper collage, wood burning, painting, etc. For those things you probably don't want a pattern so huge, and being spread over 2-3 pages makes it hard to enlarge or reduce. So in this pattern I also included an additional page with the image roughly 6 inches tall. That way you can easily enlarge or reduce it to any size you like. Handy!
So this pattern is for one large block. You can make a single block and use it for a wall hanging or a pillow, applique it on a tote bag or a T-shirt. Make a bunch of the same block and make it into a Peekaboo Lion like this Peekaboo Bear quilt. Or sign up for the Safari Quilt Block of the Month Club. You'll get a new block every month for 12 months. The lesson for month 13 shows you how to join them into a single twin-sized quilt, with all the instructions you need to join, layer, quilt, and bind it.
So - a link recap is, I think, in order. . .
