Monsters! Meet the Knuckleheads
All the monster patterns are available now! Woo hoo! I'm so excited to finally launch them - I'm running around with flailing Muppet arms! I'll be introducing a different pattern every day this week, but you can find all the patterns here now.
Do you want to make a whole horde of monsters? First - you're awesome! Second - I'd like to give you a discount. If you buy all the patterns in the new Monster Collection, enter the discount code MONSTERHORDE for $5 off the bundle. That's more than a 10% discount. :-) (Please put the patterns in your cart before entering the discount code - otherwise the fairies won't recognize it.)
Scroll all the way to the bottom for some fun giveaway info!
Meet the Knuckleheads! This pattern is for an easy-to-make softie with three variations. You can get the pattern here.
Clyde (the mopey gray one) is crazy easy to make. He's made from forgiving, easy-to-sew, easy-to-find, cuddly soft polar fleece If you're looking to make your first softie ever, I'd recommend Clyde. Plus - he really needs a best friend.
Leonard (the purple one) has a very hairy back. Some people think he was born in the wrong decade, but he thinks he's pretty awesome just the way he is. :-) He's made from a mix of faux fur and woven cotton fabric - a great way to get started working with fur.
Mary Margaret (the red one) has a few self-control issues - but she has a kind heart and she loves to give hugs with those long skinny arms.
The finished softies are 8 inches tall - a great size for hugging. :-)
With one pattern you can make a whole horde of monsters. After you make the basic Knuckleheads you can play mad scientist and start rearranging the parts. Add Mary Margaret's long arms to Leonard. Replace Clyde's ears with Leonard's horns. Give Clyde's ears to Mary Margaret. I'm sure there's a limit to the number of combinations possible, but I don't remember how to do that kind of math. :-)
This is a very easy pattern - appropriate for beginners. Can you control the speed of your machine? Are you comfortable sewing straight lines and turning corners? Then you can sew this pattern.
You get full-sized pattern pieces - no enlarging needed.
The 17-page pattern is loaded with full-color step-by-step photos and very clear instructions PLUS links to videos teaching you all the techniques you need to know to complete the project. You can totally make this!
I designed this pattern to be extremely easy. It has a flat bottom to sit nicely, but it's not set in (trickier to sew). Instead it's constructed like the base of a tote bag. So easy! It's a great pattern for kids to sew!
I'm so excited to introduce the new collection! I wish I could invite you all over for cupcakes and a chance to pet and hug the new softies - but most of you live so far away! :-) So instead I'm having a little giveaway here.
What are the prizes? They're pretty dang good! There are four prizes - one for every day through Thursday. . .
Two Monster-Making supply packs - you'll get enough faux fur to make any of the softies, and enough polar fleece to make another. You'll also get a small pack of fun safety eyes and some plastic pellets for stuffing.
Two Getting Stared with Felt supply packs - you'll get a sheet of every color felt I used to make the Oddballs, plus a few sheets of Printable Freezer Paper and The Magical Embroidery Stuff and a Sulky Iron-On Transfer Pen.
To enter - just leave a comment on this post. I'd love to know which of the Knuckleheads is your favorite and who you'd like to make it for. :-) I'll draw a random winner every day and then Friday I'll announce a Monster-Sew-Along for the month of March - with prizes for that too!
Spoolhardy Girl won this giveaway - but there are more every day this week so come back!
Please help me spread the word about the new patterns! Share them on Facebook, tweet about them, pin them to Pinterest. I do appreciate it. :-)
Get your Knuckleheads pattern here - and get all the Monster patterns here. Remember to use the code MONSTERHORDE if you're buying the whole bundle!
Happy sewing!
Best,
Wendi
You have officially emptied my paypal account lol. I know what I'm doing for my 2yr old for his birthday. Lots and lots of monsters! Who knows, maybe I'll master those french knots.
ReplyDeleteI love Leonard the best! :) And I'd make him for a couple of Knuckleheads that live in my home! Thanks for the chance. :)
ReplyDeleteI was really hoping someone would call their kids Knuckleheads. . . :-)
DeleteI really love Leonard. I have boxes of old upholstery/drapery fabric scraps and I do believe all of Leoanard's distant kin will want to come calling. It is all relative, after all :) Plus, all MY relatives will want one!. youngest first, though.
ReplyDeleteOooh - he'll be great in some upholstery fabric! I can't wait to see!
DeletePoor Clyde having to look at the world with a third eye, LOL! He can live with me. I would give him some dark glasses so he would only see 1/3 of my dust!
ReplyDeleteHa ha ha! I NEVER dust so I can totally relate. :-)
DeleteMary Margaret is my absolute favorite! She's so happy, fuzzy, soft and my favorite color! I would make her for me as I don't have any stuffed animals and think I really would deserve to have a Mary Margaret in my room. :)
ReplyDeleteNo stuffed animals in your room! You MUST fix that! I think I have stuffed animals in every room in my house! No - not in the kitchen, though I do have some vinyl Batman toys on a shelf beside my kitchen sink. :-)
Delete>.< I LOVE THEM ALL>...But I'm guessing you knew that already lol. =)
ReplyDeleteI did suspect that you would REALLY like this collection. ;-)
DeleteI'd make Leonard for my husband. My husband thinks he has a hairy back but he really doesn't. I think it'd be a hoot to make a hairy-backed monster for him.
ReplyDeleteCute!
DeleteIt's so hard to pick just one, but if I must, I guess Mary Marrgaret is my favorite!! I can't wait to make a ton of these for my almost-2-year-old's birthday. Since there aren't many kids coming, I am going to make one for each child there instead of "treat" bags! So EXCITED!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great - and generous - idea! You should take a picture of the kids holding their monsters!
DeleteI love Leonard - the fact that he's purple makes him even cuter. I'd make him for my daughter who is all grown up but still sleeps with her favorite stuffed animal.
ReplyDeleteShhhh. . . I still sleep with a stuffed animal. I started when I was pregnant - it helped me stay laying on my side in the night and the body pillows everyone recommends for that were too huge and unwieldy. But a teddy bear was perfect!
DeleteI love Leonard the most! Those horns are fabulous! I would make one for my friend's little boy; I needed a good softie pattern for a boy :)
ReplyDeleteYou have done a great job with all these patterns, Congrats!

I love Mary Margaret! I would make him for my little Mara who, at 19 months old, loves to yell "monsterrrrrr!" and look out the door, freaking out her 3.5 year old brother! :)
ReplyDeleteThey sound like kindred spirits - that's EXACTLY the kind of thing Mary Margaret would do!
DeleteI love Leonard, but I'd have to rename him Dave, after my husband, who also has a hairy back. And now I have to go hide. I have exposed his secret to the world! Really really cute monster pack! :)
ReplyDeleteShhhh. . . my husband has a hairy back too. :-)
DeleteI am partial to Leonard's droopy horns and toothy smile !
ReplyDeleteI started with the horns turned up, but I flipped them around just to see what they would look like and LOVED them all droopy.
DeleteI adore Clyde! I would love to make him for my soon to be 2 year old son. I can totally see him carrying him around the house.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was designing Clyde I thought those ears would be perfect grips for dragging. :-)
DeleteI like Leonard. It probably has something to do with loving purple. I would probably make them as gifts for my daycare kids for their birthdays.
ReplyDeletePurple is my favorite color! Especially when paired with lime green. :-)
DeleteLeonard is my fav. and I would most likely make one for each of my three kids...and myself too!
ReplyDeleteI would love to see a photo of a trio (or quartet) of Leonards!
DeleteMary Margaret is totally my bff! I would make all of these for a couple sweetie pie toddlers that I know. Thanks for the chance!
ReplyDeleteYou win the supply pack! Send your address to me at blockhead@wendigratz.com and I'll get it in the mail to you as soon as the ice here melts. :-)
DeleteI love the fluffy one! I would make them for my little guy and his buddies.
ReplyDeleteIt thrills me so much to hear how many of you are planning to make these for boys! Yay! That was my hope!
DeleteThey're all so cute, but Clyde stole my heart.
ReplyDeleteClyde stole my heart too. Just like Eeyore, he's my favorite. :-)
DeleteI love them all, there is no way I could pick just one. Oh my little grandaughter would just love these monsters, cant wait to make them.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see what you make!
DeleteI like Clyde the best I think. I have two boys and they would love nothing better than for me to make them some monsters..... ;-)
ReplyDeleteClyde is really REALLY easy. You could let your boys help you make them!
DeleteFor sure Leonard! My girls would love these. I can see my littlest cuddling up with Mary Margaret and petting her for ages.
ReplyDeleteMary Margaret is very pettable. That fur is crazy fluffy!
DeleteI had typed the wrong monster name...my favourite is the purple one, Leonard!!! Just discovered your blog and website, and had to buy 2 quilting patterns right away, i just couldn't resist not to! Would love to win that cutie monster!!!
ReplyDeleteWith love, chuen
My favourite is Clyde. Loved all your wonderful works n generous tutorials. Would love to make these for my girls.
ReplyDeleteYou had me at ' monsters' lol
Ha ha! I love your name!
DeleteI like all the monsters but I think Clyde will be the most loved by my grandson!
ReplyDeleteHoping to win, thanks for the chance.
Linda
P.S.
I love all your embroidery tutorials!
Thanks!
DeleteI'd make Leonard 'cause I would add him to the gifts I gather every Christmas for the "adopt a child" project.
ReplyDeleteI love those projects! They get a bunch of my samples at the end of every year.
DeleteI would make Mary Margaret because I love her name, and her description made me giggle. Shes beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteShe certainly thinks she's beautiful! She has self-control issues, but no problems with self-esteem. :-)
DeleteMary Margaret for my sewing room inspiration!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to see a photo!
DeleteLeonard! It's his stripy horns, I'd have to make him for my 3 year old nephew. But maybe with Mary Margaret's arms. More limbs is ALWAYS better.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE stripey horns! When we get to the quilt you'll see that I made almost all the horns stripey. And yes - more limbs is ALWAYS better. :-)
DeleteI live leonard. hes my favorite colour and has a cheeky smile plus I love his back fur :)
ReplyDeleteI love his back fur too. :-)
DeleteI love them all but I think I like Leonard the best. :) He would make a great pal for Monkey, who travels with me everywhere, but doesn't have a friend of his own to keep him company.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like Monkey needs a friend - and Leonard is cheeky enough to hold his own with a Monkey. :-)
Deletewendi,
ReplyDeletei thought i posted yesterday!
thanks for the chance to win!
