Free Pattern - Flora the felt bird

This little felt bird was such a delight to make! Seriously - I loved every minute of it. I want to make a whole flock of them in rainbow colors! And now you can make her too. The pattern is free over at Sew, Mama, Sew!

You do all the embroidery first - that makes it really easy to transfer the pattern and stitch. I highly recommend using The Magical Embroidery Stuff for this - and it's on sale this week!

The embroidery is all easy - just three of the most basic stitches. Backstitch. Lazy Daisy. French knot.

See where it ranks on my new 123 thimble difficulty ranking scale?

After you embroider it's all easy whipstitch to sew her together. She's about 4 inches tall when finished - the perfect size to sit on my desk blinking peacefully at me while I work. :-)

Buy my favorite felt here. (Flora uses less than one sheet of peacock felt.)

Read more about working with felt in these posts.

Happy stitching!

Wendi

  1. Wendi, does the wool blend felt come out ok when you put it in water to dissolve the stabilizer?

    1. Yep! I just make sure not to use hot water. :-) I tried using cold, but that made my hands hurt so now I use tepid to ever-so-slightly warm and it works like a charm - no shrinking or pebbling of the felt.
