Yesterday I listed a pattern for some pirate and ninja finger puppets, and that pattern included a page of finger puppet blanks so you could come up with your own designs. If you need a little help on the drawing front, may I recommend Ed Emberley? His books are just amazing! I love his style, and I love the way he teaches his style. He breaks everything down into the most basic shapes and then shows you how to put them together. Can you draw a half-circle, a V, a short, straight line, a dot, and the letter S? Then you can draw a mouse the Ed Emberley way. See?
I love all his books - but I think my very favorite is Ed Emberley's Big Green Drawing Book. I'm partial to dragons and his are terrific. There's also a pretty fabulous snake.
I also really like Ed Emberley's Drawing Book of Faces - these would make especially good finger puppet designs.
My daughter's favorite is Ed Emberley's Drawing Book of Animals - especially that lion you see on the cover.
Maybe you'd prefer something a little. . .strange? How about Ed Emberley's Drawing Book of Weirdos. He really does have something for everyone and I gathered up all of my favorites here.

I love those books! I can't draw anything but these books are a huge help! I use them all the time when I send homemade cards my girls in Bible Study.
ReplyDeleteDid you know there's a comics school in Vermont that uses his Make a World book as a textbook? How awesome is that?
