A few weeks ago a friend of mine commented on Facebook that my life seems so idyllic. I laughed out loud - actually did a spit take - and then stopped suddenly when I realized that my life is pretty idyllic. I work from home, with my husband who works from home, with our daughter who homeschools. We live in the mountains with a beautiful view. We have a garden providing fresh food, chickens that lay the best eggs and soothe me with their happy clucking sounds, and a dog that likes to snooze at our feet. We spend all day doing fun and creative things - together or side-by-side - and it's pretty fabulous. We worked hard for many years to get a point where we could do this. I need to remember to enjoy it!
I've been feeling a little overwhelmed lately. I've got a huge deadline looming in October (for something I can't announce yet) - plus a book contribution due in September and a Stitch magazine contribution due later this month. I'm planning to go to Quilt Market this fall - to show a portfolio of fabric collections to manufacturers, and a small collection of printed patterns to distributors - and I have a lot of preparations to make for that. Plus we have our annual family-of-geeks vacation to Dragon*Con coming up Labor Day weekend and we still have to finish our entry into the costume contest. I don't want to get so swamped by the big deadlines that I don't enjoy the everyday things happening all around me.
Then today I saw that two of my friends are taking part in the August Break inspired by Susannah Conway and I realized right away that it was just the thing.
So for the rest of the month of August I'll be doing a different kind of posting. I'll be posting a photo (or more) every day - with just a little bit of text to go with it. There won't be any new video tutorials or patterns, show & tell or sale posts. Instead there will be small peeks at all the things in my life that bring me joy. I'll mostly be blogging in the evening rather than my usual morning posts. I think that will fit in better with the "looking back at all the good things from today" kind of feel I'm looking for.
And I'll be back with enthusiasm after Labor Day weekend. I've got a slew of new videos I want to make, patterns I want to design, projects I want to finish, Show & Tell photos I want to share. I just can't do them all at once. :-)
So meet me back here tomorrow night for the first post.
Happy August!
Best,
Wendi
