Monsters! Meet the Misfits!
Today's pattern is the embroidery pattern of the Monster Horde collection - The Misfits! You can get it here.
Usually I do simple outline stitching for my designs. I love the simplicity of it, the way they just look like doodles, and how quickly they come together. :-) You can see some earlier monsters here.
But this time. . . this time I wanted to go all out on the fill-stitching. Maybe it was the influence of all the fur on my worktable?
It started with Daisy - Daisy and all her French knots.
I know this looks like a crazy amount of work, but it only took about 4 hours. For me that was a couple of Doctor Who episodes and a double episode of Downton Abbey. :-)
Then there was Hector - Hector of the many seed stitches.
I worked the seed stitches in three shades of purple for a nicely shaggy-looking pelt. Here's a close-up of the work in progress, with the darkest color done and the middle purple still being stitched.
Then there was Cameron.
After Hector's shaggy coat I wanted a smoother, longer fur, so I worked him in long & short stitches.
And finally there was Beatrice.
Goofy-looking Beatrice. She's more open-work and feathery looking.
You can make them all the same way I did - the pattern includes links to videos teaching all the stitches I used. Or you can simply stitch the outlines like I usually do. I can't wait to see what you choose! I've heard there are some already being stitched on some bedroom curtains. . .
Get the Misfits pattern here.
If you want to get all the patterns in the Monster Horde collection, make sure you use the discount code MONSTERHORDE to to get $5 off the bundle.
Today's giveaway (US shipping only) is a packet of embroidery supplies - a colorful hoop, an Itty Bitty Stitch Kit, and a bundle of my favorite thread colors. To enter - leave a comment telling me who your favorite Misfit is. Easy peasy!
Update - Thanks for all your comments! Hector started out strong, but Daisy and Beatrice quickly overwhelmed him and ended up neck and neck, with Beatrice squeaking out a win by one vote. And Jennifer J wins the pack of embroidery supplies - congratulations!
Happy stitching!
Best,
Wendi
They keep getting cuter! It has been so much fun meeting your horde this week! Hector is my fav in this group...that wonderful fuzzy fur, those cute eyes, those long long legs....oh my!
ReplyDeleteHector's long, long legs made me smile the whole time I was stitching them. :-)
DeleteAdorable! I love them all, but I think Hector and the seed stitch is my favorite- absolutely love how the colors and stiches create that furry texture! Can't wait to make this. Thinking would look cute on a canvas bag to hold a furry monster softie for the birthday give-a-way!
ReplyDeleteI love the texture you get with really dense seed stitches - especially is you use a range of shades.
DeleteI really love Daisy, she is so cute! All girl with the pink and flowers, and I'm just positive she has the sweetest disposition. :)
ReplyDelete(my profile lists me in Kuwait/Egypt but I do spend part of my year in the U.S., and have a shipping address there.)
She is a sweetie. :-)
DeleteIt would be a tie between Beatrice and Daisy for sure. They are all adorable!

Beatrice, of course!
ReplyDeleteOf course. ;-)
DeleteBeatrice is my favorite!!!
ReplyDeleteI love the goofy look on Beatrice's face.
DeleteBeatrice with all her curves is my favorite!
ReplyDeleteThose curves are all fun to stitch!
DeleteOk, you're killing me here with all this only us shipping stuff lol. That's all good. I have all the monsters and I'll just have to get moving on my own sales to pay for buying your stuff ahahaha. I love all the monsters and not sure which of the last three are my fave. Love it!!!
ReplyDeleteFriday's giveaway will be open to everyone - stay tuned!
DeleteDaisy looks like she has curly hair to me. She keeps making me think of a line from a book from my childhood (Judy Blume? Or maybe Paula Danzinger?) where the character's grandmother knit her a poodle hat and she says she doesn't know how you can knit curly, but her grandmother did.
ReplyDeleteNow, off to Google and figure out what book that was...
That's a great line!
DeleteMy favorite misfit is Beatrice. :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway.
Thanks!
DeleteI like Beatrice. Thanks for the fun opportunities to win this week!
ReplyDeleteYou're the winner! Send your mailing address to blockhead@wendigratz.com and I'll get your package in the mail to you. Congratulations!
DeleteOh my goodness! We have so much in common! Love embroidery, love quilting, love Doctor Who, love Downton Abbey... LOL :)
ReplyDeleteThansk for the opportunity to win! Crossing my fingers!
We recently introduced our daughter to Doctor Who and she's hooked! We just started the David Tennant years - my favorite Doctor. :-)
DeleteDaisy is my favorite, but Beatrice is a close second!
ReplyDeleteHector would have to become Henrietta for my granddaughter Addison who LOVES purple. Daisy would suit the smallest granddaughter Mara, while I would need a Cameron for Cade and Beatrice would have to become Benny for Oren! What fun to have Outrageous Embroidery that feeds the inner child in all of us!
ReplyDeleteI love hearing that the personalities suit specific kids!
DeleteI'm in love with cute Daisy, as my favorite lil misfit.
ReplyDeleteShe's a total sweetie. :-)
